Maiden Edition of World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day in Federal Medical Centre Abuja

In what was portrayed as an existing act but literally it was the maiden edition of World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day in Federal Medical Centre Abuja. Commemorating the event, the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria FMC Abuja Chapter organized a well-executed event today 15th April 2024 with a discussion topic ' Guardians of Quality and Patient Safety: Biomedical Laboratory Scientists.

During the opening remark, the Medical Director Prof Sa’ad Ahmed ably represented by the Head of Clinical Services Dr Bioku Muftau congratulated the AMLSN FMC Abuja Chapter for a well-planned event. The Head of Clinical Services thereafter enjoyed the Scientists to continue to support the campaign of quality healthcare services in the facility and also exhibit empathy at the point of duty with patients as part of measures of increasing patient’s satisfaction. He further urged them to continually embrace research activities in order to develop their skills.

Among top dignitaries present at the event was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume who was ably represented by the Director, Secretary to the (SGF) Mr. Simon Tyungu. In his remarks, Mr. Simon Tyungu on behalf of the SGF enumerated reasons why quality healthcare services cannot be overemphasized. In his words, “It is a known fact that Health is Wealth. Therefore, no responsible Government will fold its hands and watch the health of her citizens go down. The issues of quality service delivery cannot be said to be discussed if the issues of welfare/health of members of the public is not placed at the front burner. Also, given this administration’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s health sector to an enviable height that will enable it perform optimally. I wish to urge this highly respected Association and its critical stakeholders to adhere strictly to the laid down rules and regulations that govern their activities and operations."

Similarly, the Head of Medical Laboratory Services FMC Abuja Sct. Jude Odugu Amakaeze during his remarks appreciated the Medical Director for his massive for the Department. And on that note, he appealed to the staff of the Department to seamlessly contribute their best towards increasing and improving quality Laboratory Services in the hospital.

Closing with this, the AMLSN FMC Abuja Chairman Sct. Ani Anthony Benedict has called on stakeholders to give more attention to the Biomedical Laboratory Scientists as their commitment to excellence not only enhances the quality of healthcare delivery but also saves lives on a daily basis.

Other highlights of the commemoration included road walk, free medical checkup and series of lectures delivered. Congratulations to the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria FMC Abuja Chapter on their Maiden World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2024.
